What is FIT

Focus on Information Technology (FIT) Program

There’s a difference between simply knowing how to use a computer and being able to design, apply and coordinate technology across a broad range of disciplines.

Every field – from medicine to the environment, big business to non-profits – demands highly trained professionals capable of merging information and communications technologies with industry-specific needs.

Students can acquire these skills and more through the Focus on Information Technology (FIT) program and will have their pick of tomorrow’s brightest career opportunities.

The Right FIT

Developed by the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) in conjunction with the ICT industry, FIT is a unique, two-year program designed to seamlessly integrate practical career training with the current high-school curriculum. It offers students opportunities to consider ICT as a career choice through activities like:

·         Real-world business simulations

·         Computer language literacy

·         Hands-on networking expertise

·         Media, Graphics and Communications explorations

·         Acquisition of valuable workplace skills, including effective communications, teamwork and problem-solving

Teachers are given much of what they’ll need to help students succeed – educational and career information materials, validated learner outcomes to meet individual provincial education ministry standards, web and newsletter support – plus active involvement from industry leaders committed to the next generation. That commitment can also take the form of industry-sponsored work experience/internship/co-op placements.

On successful completion of the FIT program, students will:

                                        ·         Receive nationally recognized, résumé-ready FIT accreditation

·         Be ready to take industry standard certifications such as A+/IT Essentials, Net+/CCNA, Java or other industry recognized areas of study

·         Potentially receive advanced standing for post-secondary studies
