Web Manager

What is it?

A Web Management specialist takes care of the day-to-day running of an organization's website, updating the front page, making sure links don't die, making sure relevant pieces of content are highlighted and easy to access, and working hard to anticipate problems in the website itself.

How is IT involved?

IT is a core part of the Web Management Specialist's job.  The internet, the world wide web, and all associated online functions are so dynamic that a real working knowledge of not only the current trends and tools is essential, a great knowledge of the history of management and the future of web design are essential for a good Web manager.

Where can I see it?

Large websites that are updated daily, weekly, or on a frequent basis are in need of a Web Management specialist in order to keep their site up and running at peak efficiency.  Website design is, for the most part, completely automated, as opposed to hand-coded, and while this simplifies the job of the Web Designer, it also means things are much more likely to go wrong with the site, as things get more complex.

How can I be a part of it?

Web Managers have a very strong foundation in computers, networking, and telecommunications.  Strong math and communications skills are also a must to comprehend the data pertinent to the running of a website, and a good knowledge of database management is also essential.
